Houston, TX LiDAR Hotel Scanning Job - Scan To BIM

Scan Skunks recently completed a trip to Houston, TX where we completed a 3-day scanning job within the Westin Galleria Houston and The Westin Oaks Houston at the Galleria hotels. The hotels themselves are less than .5 miles apart and connected by the Galleria mall. Lobbies of both hotels were captured as well as former HR offices, a White Oaks Kitchen and restaurant, and several other elements. It was an exciting time, as the hotel was buzzing with traffic from the 2023 March Madness crowd flowing through Houston. Having this amount of foot traffic made scanning difficult for some areas. Scan Skunks decided to scan during off hours to keep our point clouds as free of people as possible. We scanned with our traditional LiDAR scanner Faro x330 LiDAR scanner, Geoslam LiDAR scanner, and Matterport Pro 3 camera.

Some spaces were additionally challenging as they had space above the ceiling that was important to capture. Additionally, selective demolition took place upon our arrival to capture actual location of concrete columns instead of the typical drywall.
