Project Description

Scan Skunks recently completed as-built drawings for the campus of the Church of the Redeemer in Nashville, TN. Working for Architect W. Michael Davis, Scan Skunks completed the 24,500sq ft facility measurements using several LiDAR scanning devices.

Nashville LiDAR Scanning

One of the challenges for this facility was that there have already been several additions and renovations to the church. Finding where and how the additions have come together was especially crucial as well as identifying level changes between the two main structures. We used our terrestrial Faro x330 to take in long range data of the exterior, while the interior was mainly comprised of data from the Geoslam Horizon LiDAR scanner. Comparing, and merging these two point clouds together serves as a double-check of scanner accuracy in the process.

Drone Photography and Photogrammetry

Nashville Drone Photogrammetry was also preformed to ascertain roof structure. The property was built in several phases. Connections between these phases were crucial in developing future demands of the space.

As with most of our projects, we took a Matterport for our own internal use. The simplicity of the Matterport software, and the ability scan exteriors with the new Pro 3 scanners is a game changer. We understand that the LiDAR that results from the Pro 3 may not be accurate within the Matterport software, however it make exterior alignment within their tool much less of a headache than prior product offerings.

The Matterport digital twin was delivered following day, while the main Revit Model, and 2D drawings were delivered 2 weeks from the initial scan date.
